A practical example

A photoelectric sensor on a packaging line keeps dropping out intermittently. A structured approach checks: is the sensor's supply voltage stable? Is the alignment correct and the reflector/target clean? Is the output present at the sensor, and at the PLC input? Only then do you consider swapping the sensor.
